Iranians celebrate National Fathers’ Day

Iranians celebrate Fathers’ Day on the birth anniversary of Imam Ali (AS), the first Imam of Shia Muslims, to recognize the contribution of fathers and fatherly figures to the lives of their children.

Father's Day is celebrated worldwide on a variety of dates and in Iran this year, Father's Day falls on Tuesday – the 13th of Rajab (7th month of Hegira calendar).

National Fathers’ Day was designated by the Iranian government and entered into the calendar as out of respect for the first Imam, who is considered a symbol of justice and courage.

Many people are not only honoring the place of fathers in the family but all men, including grandfathers, husbands and fatherly figures, often expressing their gratitude and paying respects with a small token gift, a friendly visit or simply a telephone call.

Imam Ali (AS) is the first Imam in Shia Islam and is regarded as being among the first believers in Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) message of Islam.
